International students can now apply for the City of Sydney’s ambassador program which provides opportunities to broaden networks and gain career skills.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore said that the International Student Leadership and Ambassador (ISLA) program will provide training, mentoring and work experience to international students in NSW.

“There are 40,000 international students living and studying in Sydney who play a crucial role in enhancing our global connections,” the Lord Mayor said.

“Programs like this help Sydney attract and nurture the best candidates from around the world, and who can promote Sydney internationally as a great place to study, live and work,” he added.

The City’s international student ambassadors will host a range of events with the  City for local and international students to promote social connection, health and wellbeing and volunteering in the community as well as various events and festivals.

During their 18-month term, ambassadors will attend various workshops including leadership, cultural awareness, community engagement, professional writing and project management.

International student ambassador Tian Qin said that “during this program I got to know so many people from all walks of life and from all over the world. It was really inspiring – I got to see how they lived, what their ambitions were and what things they appreciate and value in life.”

Applications for 2016-18 ISLA program is now open for students. Visit the City of Sydney website to view further details of the program. Applications will close on Monday 10 October at 5 pm.
