A total of 61 illegal sales of Australian real estate made to foreign nationals were exposed by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

The Australian Government is now forcing foreign nationals to sell the illegally acquired properties.
Lately, 15 Australian residential properties located in Victoria and Queensland were added to the millions of dollars of the illegal sales, raising it to a total of $107 million.

Treasurer the Hon. Scott Morrison has ordered the forced sales of these properties, with owners varying from China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, the United Kingdom to Germany.

This is part of the Turnbull Government’s initiative to ensure legal procedures in sale of an Australian property, and if under illegal holdings, to have it relinquished.

Already 36 foreign nationals have sold properties during the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) investigations. This is out of more than 570 foreign nationals who have breached the law.

Breaching the rules results in civil penalties or even criminal prosecution.

388 penalty notices have been issued to the foreign nationals, and have attracted more than $2 million.
This commitment from the government will create more jobs in the construction industry, increasing economic growth.
