The Bankstown Line upgrade will provide additional trains, faster travel times and easier access to stations, according to the NSW Government.

Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance recently announced the initiation of the formal planning process for the next part of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest project.

“Thousands of people are now suffering a transport bottleneck on the Bankstown line. Metro will mean faster journeys, more trains and better connections for the south west,” Mr Constance said.
The project includes the Sydenham to Bankstown upgrade, which would cut travel times between Sydenham and Macquarie Park by at least 16 minutes and reduce travel time between Bankstown and Martin Place up to 11 minutes.

“Right now, there’s a train every eight minutes in the peak at major stations along the line, and just four trains an hour at the rest. With Metro, we’ll be running a train every four minutes in the peak at all stations, with plenty of room to grow in the future,” Mr Constance said.

Following the upgrade, Bankstown line customers will be able to directly access major CBD metro stations and beyond, including Martin Place, Pitt Street, Barangaroo, Victoria Cross in North Sydney, Chatswood and Macquarie Park.

“This metro upgrade means faster and direct access to places like North Sydney and Macquarie University for residents of Southwest Sydney,” Mr Constance said.

Also, all stations between Sydenham and Bankstown will be improved with lifts, level platforms including screen doors for safety and increased security.
