Through the new Science, Research and Innovation Cooperation Agreement, Australian and New Zealand has created new opportunities of employment, innovation and growth of the economy.
After a year of negotiations, Australia and New Zealand has agreed to the Agreement that signifies a strong alignment of the two nation’s economic and strategic interests.

The Agreement will create commercial opportunities, improve accuracy of GPS signals, tackle chronic disease, advance health care, increase collaboration on research and innovation, exchange experts and knowledge, further initiatives on common science priorities and promote trans-Tasman innovation ecosystem as an investment attraction.

Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science, Senator Arthur Sinodinos and the New Zealand Minister for Economic Development, Transport and Communications, Simon Bridges signed a treaty-level agreement at the Australia New Zealand Leaders’ Meeting in Queenstown.

“This Agreement sets out a clear work programme that will provide a focus-point for our cooperation into the future,” New Zealand Science and Innovation Minister Paul Goldsmith said.
“New Zealand’s role as foundation investors in the Australian Synchrotron is a prime example of that collaboration, and means we now have access to a facility which can assist in the development of everything from forensics, to surgical tools, to understanding environmental issues,” he added.
