The design of the CBD and South East Light Rail stops have been unveiled, allowing Sydneysiders a glimpse of their public transport future.

The design has been presented in a full-scale prototype, and is one of the 19 light rail stops for the CBD and South East.

Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance said that the light rail stop has been carefully designed to suit customers and enhance their experience.

“We’ve purposely built this as a life-size test to demonstrate the architectural design and finishes, experience all the individual elements and features and test the overall customer experience,” Mr Constance said.

Light rail stops will have bronze canopies to provide protection, seating and convenient ticketing systems.
Grimshaw Architects, who have won more than 200 awards around the world, were the designers behind Sydney’s light rail stops.

Mr Constance said that these specialist architects specifically designed each stop of the route.

“The stops have each been designed to suit individual locations and complement their surrounds such as heritage buildings, local built and natural environments while ensuring they are fully accessible and user friends,” Mr Constance added.

The light rail is expected to operate in 2019. The first stop will be built in Randwick in Alison Road over the coming months.
