NSW Government has secured an international match with Liverpool FC against Sydney FC on Wednesday 24 May. 

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian, Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall and Liverpool FC Ambassador Ian Rush have secured this match. 

The match will be held at the ANZ Stadium on 24 May, 2017. 

“We have so many incredible fans in Australia and there is always a brilliant atmosphere when we play over here,” Mr Rush said. 

“This is the first time the lads have played in Sydney and they’re really looking forward to a great match against one of Australia’s best A-league teams,” he added. 

The football match will also boost NSW’s economy.

According to the Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall, the football match is expected to welcome over 10,000 of overnight visitors from across Australian contributing $6.5 million into the NSW economy. 

“I encourage football fans to book their trip to Sydney and while they’re here, stay on to enjoy everything our State has to offer,” Mr Marshall said. 

The Liverpool FC match will be a part of an important strain of sporting events in Sydney, from NRL Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs v Sydney Roosters match at ANZ Stadium on 21 May and NSW Waratahs v Melbourne Rebels Super Rugby match at Allianz Stadium on 21 May.
