North Korea has released satellite images of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defence (THAAD) system deployed in South Korea.

The unveiling has been described as a power move, exerting military pressure on Seoul by flaunting N.Korea’s intelligence-gathering capability.

The North’s state-run Korean Central TV Broadcasting Station aired two pictures with areas described as THAAD components at Seongju country area in South Korea.

However, the information of when or how the photos were taken were not mentioned in the broadcast.

“THAAD is a source of a nuclear disaster being brought to our race at the moment,” the North’s Central TV Broadcasting Station’s broadcaster said.

The broadcaster added that the deployment will “turn the Korean peninsula as a battlefield for a nuclear war among powerful countries.”
THAAD was deployed in April to intercept North’s ballistic missiles and was in operation six days after the U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) secured land in Seongju.

Moreover, the North criticised the United States for deploying key THAAD components such as the X-band radar and missile launchers, before the conservative party in South Korea handed their power to the liberals.

The liberal party representative, Moon Jae-in, who recently won the presidency on Wednesday said he will negotiate with the U.S. and China, surrounding the issues of deployment.

He also vowed to restore engagement with the North and play an active diplomatic role to retire their nuclear weapons program.
