Six of Australia’s Universities made it in to the top 100 of Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2018, released this week. 

The University of Melbourne was the top-ranked Australian university with a rank of 32, followed by the Australian National University ranked at 48. 

The University of Sydney ranked at 61, the University of Queensland was ranked at 65, Monash University at 80 and the University of New South Wales (UNSW) at 85. 

The University of Western Australian in Perth sat just outside the top 100, sitting at a ranking of 111, as well as the University of Adelaide sitting at 134. 

“Government’s reforms to higher education will improve transparency and accountability; boost responsiveness to the aspirations of students and workforce needs; and maintain strong levels of investment in our universities, which forecast taxpayer supported revenue growth of 23 per cent over the next four years,” Minister for Education and Training, Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham said. 

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2018 lists the top 1,000 universities around the world, representing the 5 per cent of the 20,000 higher education institutions internationally. 

The university performance is judged based on university’s teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. 

Moreover, there are 13 calibrated performance indicators to allow balanced comparisons, which is than audited by professional service firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). 

In addition, it was also found that Australia had the third highest number of international students in the world, just behind the UK and the US.
