Transport for NSW announced a new maintenance work to begin in early 2018 on the Central Coast to prepare for the arrival of the state-of-the-art New Intercity Fleet.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast Scot MacDonald MLC said that a key contract for the detailed design and construction of a new maintenance facility to service the trains to at Kangy Angy has been awarded.

“Infrastructure and property group John Holland will now begin pre-construction activities with major construction expected to start early in 2018,” Mr MacDonald said.
According to Mr MacDonald, the project is envisaged to create 300 jobs on the Central Coast, including apprenticeships, during the construction and maintenance term.

This facility will allow the 512 new Intercity carriages to seamlessly move onto the network and replace the ageing V-sets to provide customers who commute daily to Sydney from the South Coast, Blue Mountains, Central Coast and Newcastle.

The new trains will include two-by-two seating with tray tables and cup holders, as well as the facility to charge mobile devices.

Also, a dedicated luggage and bicycle racks will be provided, as well as extra space for wheelchairs and prams, accessible toilets and baby changing facilities.

Further, better on-board technology such as CCTV cameras, customer help point alarms and fire detection technology will increase safety and security.

The new trains will come into service progressively while the first trains are anticipated to be delivered in 2019.
