From 2018, shoppers will be able to receive 10 cent refund at Coles supermarkets as part of ‘Return and Earn’ project.

Along with Woolworths, Coles supermarket is the newest addition to this environment-friendly initiative which aims to also benefit the consumers.

From January 2018, shoppers will receive their refund at reverse vending machines. The refunds will be available in three different ways.

People can receive their 10 cent refund as a cash refund, in-store credit through vouchers at NSW Coles supermarkets, and as a charity donation.

The charity organisations available for donation includes the Cancer Council, St Vincent de Paul, Surf Life Saving NSW, and Planet Ark.

Most 150ml to three litre drink containers will be eligible for a refund. The container must be made of glass, plastic, aluminum, steel, or liquid paperboard and cartons.

Containers must be empty, uncrushed, unbroken, with the original label attached.

However, wine, spirits, cordial, and plain milk containers will not be accepted.

Already more than eight million containers have been returned since the introduction of the container deposit scheme on 1 December.

The highest record of 692,000 returns were recorded on Sunday, 17 December.

“The Return and Earn Scheme is helping the NSW Government reach its goal to reduce litter volume by 40 per cent by 2020,” Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald said.
