New category in the Sydney City Region Business Awards was introduced to recognise and reward Sydney businesses that display inclusive workplace.

The new ‘Excellence in Workplace Inclusion’ award will join the 12 existing categories opened to local Sydney businesses.

To be considered as one of businesses under the award, businesses need to address the needs of a diverse community. This includes the employment of seniors, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and people with a disability.

“Research shows that businesses that appreciate, respect and promote diversity are more able to respond effectively to customers, attract and retain high performing employees, and achieve sustainable growth,” the Lord Mayor Clover Moore said.

“More and more, businesses are embracing diversity to unlock the power that inclusion brings. We have pushed for this new award because we know that workplace inclusion fosters innovation, increases creativity and leads to a better customer experience for us all,” she added.

The Sydney City Business Awards are held every year. Applications for 2018 awards will be opened from 23 April to 4 June 2018. The finalists for 2018 will be announced early July, as the event will be held on 25 July at Sydney Town Hall.

Along with the Excellence in Workplace Inclusion, 2018 awards will include 12 other categories such as the Outstanding Young Employee, Outstanding Young Entrepreneur, Excellence in Small Business, Excellence in Business, Excellence in Social Enterprise, StartUp Superstar, Outstanding Employer of Choice, and more.
