The Sydney Korean Festival 2018 at Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour proved to be a massive success with Taekwondo performances, Han-Bok experiences and popular eateries.

The seventh annual festival was hosted by the Australia-Korea Culture and Arts Incorporated and the Sydney Korean Cultural Centre. It was also produced by EU Production, and featured traditional, open, and K-pop stages.

The impressive Taekwondo demonstrations were performed by the World Taekowndo Headquarters, led by chairman Oh Hyun-Dek.

Australians and Koreans all participated in the traditional Korean clothing ‘Hanbok’ contest.

For the opening ceremony, the Australia-Korea Culture and Arts Incorporated prepared a massive rice-cake cake in the shape of Australia and said “in the time of celebration, Koreans share rice-cake with our neighbours”.

Distinguishing guests such as NSW Minister for Multiculturalism and the Minister for Disability Services The Hon. Raymond Williams, NSW Minister for Finance, Services and Property The Hon. Victor Dominello, the member for Strathfield Jodi McKay and member for Epping Damien Tudehope all attended the opening ceremony.

Stalls were prepared by the Australia-Korea Cultural and Arts Incorporated, as visitors were encouraged to participate in activities such as hanbok fitting, origami, and arts and crafts for the full authentic Korean experience.

In addition, the 15 food stalls of Korean fried chicken and street food such as dumplings, ddeokbokki, and fish cake welcomed endless visitors.

‘K-pop world festival’ included the most popular performances of the event. The first prize of two thousand dollars went to ‘Triple Treat’, the second to ‘SoBQ’, and third to ‘9bit’.

On Sunday 6 May, the Korean Drama & Film Award awarded the top five Korean dramas, actors and actresses through an online poll opened to everyone in Australia.
