From 1 July 2018, Parking fines will be cut by 25 per cent, with the minimum fine being reduced from $110 to $80.

The NSW Government has reviewed and reduced the fines that has no impact to road safety as part of the 2018-2019 State budget.

However, this fine reduction only applies to areas run by the government such as the Sydney Olympic Park, Barangaroo, The Royal Botanic Gardens, Centennial Park, and Parramatta Park.

For these areas, the reduced amount will apply to fines issued for parking continuously for longer than permitted, parking without a ticket, parking after a ticket expiry, stopping in a restricted parking area, standing the vehicle in area longer than permitted, parking after the meter expires, parking without a loading zone ticket, not standing the vehicle in the marked parking space, remaining in a ticket-operated loading zone after a ticket expiry, and parking without paying the meter fee.

“Fines such as speeding, running a red light, not wearing a seat belt, stopping on a clearway or using a mobile phone when driving are naturally much higher and reflect the seriousness of the offence- they are not part of this review,” NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said.

However, most parking fines in NSW are issued out by the local government. The fine reduction will not be applied to most council parking fines.

“I would hope they (local government) do the right thing by residents, ratepayers and visitors and undertake a review of their own approach to parking fines,” Mr Perrottet said.
