Two free online courses have been offered from the University of Sydney, which will deliver business innovation through design.

The two courses were launched on 25 June, and are freely available for all members of the public. They have been developed by the University and businesses such as UBank and insurance risk company Swiss Re.

The first course, ‘Design strategy: Design thinking for business strategy and entrepreneurship’, is suited for entrepreneurial managers bringing design thinking into their corporate strategy.

The second course, ‘Innovation Through Design: Think, Make, Break, Repeat’, will assist in the development of design thinking for strategic and innovative advantage.

However, even though both courses are free, a minimal fee will be required to receive a certificate of completion.

The two courses have been created in partnership with University of Sydney and the NSW Government’s Boosting Business Innovation Program.

“The Boost program is bringing great business and academic minds together to create new products and ideas to support innovation in our economy,” Deputy Premier and Minister for Small Business John Barilaro said.

$18 million has already been invested into the state’s 11 universities, with $1.5 million into University of Sydney alone.

“The partnership between the Department of Industry and University of Sydney through the Boost program has had a huge impact on our ability to leverage internal expertise to benefit small to medium sized businesses and enterprises more broadly,” University of Sydney Pro-Vice-chancellor (Research- Enterprise & Engagement) Associate Professor Eric Knight said.
