The $1 billion Westmead redevelopment project showcase was unveiled by the NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Health Minister Brad Hazzard.
The project will include a 14-storey Central Acute Services Building, as well as the refurbishment of the existing hospital and 1400 additional car spaces.
“I am thrilled to unveil what will actually be Australia’s largest health precinct, including two new emergency departments, state-of-the-art digital operating theatres and inpatient units,” Ms Berejikilian said.
In addition, the Central Acute Services Building will include separate adult and paediatric emergency departments, a new helipad, pharmacy, medical imaging, sterilising services, NSW Infectious Diseases Unit, and State-of-the-art operating suites.
The $1 billion investment includes $765 million for the new hospital building and refurbishments to the existing hospital, $95 million for the Children’s Hospital, and $72 million towards parking facilities.
“This massive project will further propel Westmead as a truly world-class health, research and education precinct for Western Sydney patients,” Ms Berejiklian added.
The NSW government will also invest in the medical research sector at Westmead, and support the research of evidence-based medicine and scientific excellence.
Stage 1 of the refurbishment project has already been completed, with 16-bed gastroenterology ward, new ear, nose and throat and audiology units, new 64 bed-in-patient units and the Westmead Education and Conference Centre.
