The City of Sydney was chosen as one of the top cities in the recent CDP global sustainability report, becoming the highest city in the Asian Pacific region.

Sydney received high scores, along with cities such as Cleveland, Durban, Mexico City, and Paris.

Sydney was recognised for their achievements in tackling climate issues, and excelling in climate disclosure.

“Through Sustainable Sydney 2030, we have set ourselves some of the most ambitious sustainability targets in the world,” Lord Mayor clover Moore said.

“To achieve our goal of net zero emissions by 2050, we are working with developers and the community to raise sustainability standards across the entire local government area,” she added.

In addition, the city will be investing in green infrastructure and increasing its renewable energy use.

“This number one ranking means we have been recognised internationally for our exemplary reporting and collection of environmental data,” The Lord Mayor said.

CDP collects self-reported environmental data in the world and uses it to create a detailed analysis on environmental risks, impacts, and opportunities.

The Director of Cities, States and Regions at CDP, Kyra Appleby urged all cities to disclose to CDP, and work together to build a sustainable economy.

“We congratulate Sydney for the leadership they have shown to both measure and manage their environmental impact,” Ms Appleby said.
