The Invictus Games for the wounded, injured and ill service men and women will open in Sydney this weekend.

The international sports event will commence from 20 to 27 October 2018, and will attract 500 competitors from 18 countries.

The Opening Ceremony will be held on 20 October at the Sydney Opera House, as the first competitions will include road cycling through The Domain and Royal Botanic Gardens and sailing in Farm Cove on Sydney Harbour.

More games will be held at the Sydney Olympic Park and will include events such as wheelchair tennis, swimming and archery.

The closing ceremony will be held at the Qudos Bank Arena on the 27 October 2018.

Spectators are encouraged to take the public transport to the events as they will be provided with extra train services between the city, Olympic Park and Lidcombe.

Accessible buses will be used to transport athletes around Sydney during next week.

Moreover, seats have been temporarily removed from seven State Transit buses for the transport of athletes and support staff.

“It’s the competitors who will drive these games, and I’m glad we can help them moving, and get them to their events hassle free,” Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance said
