Australian airlines such as Qantas and Virgin Australian have been named as one of the safest airlines for 2018, according to AirlineRatings.com. 

Other airlines in the top 20 safest airlines for 2018 list included Air New Zealand, Alaska Airlines, All Nippon Airways, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Emirates, Etihad Airways, EVA Air, Finnair, Hawaiian Airlines, Japan Airlines, KLM, Lufthansa, Royal Jordanian Airlines, Scandinavian Airline System, Singapore Airlines, Swiss and Virgin Atlantic. 

“Australia’s Qantas has been recognised by the British Advertising Standards Association in a test case as the world’s most experienced airline,” AirlineRatings.com Editor-in-Chief Geoffrey Thomas said. 

“Qantas has been the lead airline in virtually every major operational safety advancement over the past 60 years and has not had a fatality in the jet era,” Mr Thomas added. 

In addition, the list of the top 10 safest low-cost airlines was also revealed.
The list included Jetstar Australia along with other airlines such as Jetblue, Westjet and Thomas Cook. 

The top 10 low-cost airlines have all passed the International Air Transport Association Operational Safety Audio (IOSA) with excellent safety records. 

Since 2013, AIrlineRatings.com has become the industry’s standard for safety and product rating, with research into 409 airlines worldwide. 

The world’s safest airlines for 2018 list looked at the forefront of safety innovation, operational excellence and the launch of more advanced aircrafts. 

Overall in 2018, Air New Zealand was announced as the world’s best airline for 2018 due to factors such as their industry and government safety audits, financial performance, passenger ratings, profitability, and investment rating.  

Singapore Airlines won the best First Class experience in 2018, while Virgin Australia took the award for the Best Business Class for 2018. 

Further, Korean Air won the award for the Best Economy Airline in 2018.
