70 new weekly train services will be available from Sunday 28 April, ahead of the Sydney Metro services.

This will include more services in the T1 North Shore Line, with additional city service trains departing from Chatswood every three minutes during the peak.

In addition, there will be small adjustments to services on the T1 Western, T2 Inner West & Leppington, T5 Cumberland and T9 Northern Lines.

“Testing and commissioning of the new world class Sydney Metro is nearing completion and it is now time to get customers ready for when it opens in May,” Minister for Transport Andrew Constance said.

“This game-changing public transport system will transform the way people get around Sydney and we need to make sure people are ready for it,” he added.

Following the change, more staff at key stations will be available to manage crowds and some local bus services will be adjusted to align with trains.

“It’s essential customers can continue to make convenient connections on an expanded system,” Transport Coordinator General Marg Prendergast said.

“While we expect there to be some initial challenges, we are confident we will meet the needs of our existing rail customers, and the new customers that the Metro will bring,” she added.

There will be further changes at the Chatswood station, with ‘Fast Track’ platforms and new interchange linking the Sydney Metro trains and Sydney Trains.

The ‘Fast Track’ platforms will allow passengers to board and alight trains faster with new graphics to the Passenger Information Displays to show seat availability, and whether there is enough room to board on arriving trains.

Moreover, the new platform interchange will link Sydney Metro and Sydney Trains as passengers getting off Sydney Metro trains will be able to walk across the platform to instantly catch Sydney Train services.
