Local organisations will now provide learning opportunities for the English language, literacy and numeracy skills to increase the social and economic participation of migrants and job seekers.

Assistant Minister for Vocational Education and Skills Karen Andrews MP said that under the Adult Migrant English program (AMEP) and Skills for Education and Employment (SEE), migrants and job seekers will be able to participate in learning programs in a supportive environment.

“We look forward to working with providers to deliver improved learning outcomes for migrants and Australian job seekers with language, literacy and numeracy barriers,” Minister Andrews said.

“AMEP and the SEE program supports the development of knowledge and skills that significantly improve the lives of participants, by providing pathways to greater social participation, employment, further study and training,” Minister Andrews added.

AMEP will be offered to Migrants to develop essential practical English language skills.

SEE will assist jobseekers such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, youth and people with disabilities to improve their language, literacy and numeracy skills with a focus on the transition to employment or further studies.

“The business models for AMEP and SEE have been recently revised to allow for more flexible and innovative training methods to offer more opportunity for participation as well as encourage continued attendance,” Minister Andrews said.
