Businesses in Sydney can now apply for the 2017 Sydney City Region business awards program with the addition of more awards.

Two new categories of awards called Startup Superstar and Excellence in Social Enterprise has been added, raising the number of the categories of the awards to 14.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore said that the award will build profile for local businesses.

“Small-to-medium sized businesses are the lifeblood of the city’s economy, representing 85 per cent of our businesses and contributing an estimated $20 billion to the local economy,” she said.

The City has contributed $80,000 per year for the next three years to sponsor the annual NSW Business Chamber Business Awards program to support local businesses.

“We’re ensuring all city businesses have the market exposure and access to networking opportunities this awards program delivers, as well as our ongoing support through the City’s business programs, seminars and grants,” she added.

For enterprises to compete, they only need to be the members of the NSW Business Chamber.

Ivory Coat Companion Goods who won the Excellence in Small Business award in 2016 saw 370 per cent growth and doubled their revenue.

The City as well as the CEO of Ivory Coat Steven Deveraux-Stanford encourages all businesses to apply to build networks, explore new business opportunities and celebrate with innovators and entrepreneurs.
Application of the awards program closes on 29 May and is free.

The awards finalists will be announced on 15 June and the business awards event will be on 2 August in Sydney Town Hall.
