The NSW Government announced the $100 Active Kids Rebate for families across the State.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said $207 million had been allocated across four years to provide all school aged children with a rebate on sporting and fitness related costs.
“Our Active Kids Rebate will put $100 per school aged child back in the pocket of parents to help cover the cost of getting their kids into sport,” Ms Berejikian said.

From 1 January 2018, parents will be able to claim up to $100 per school child per year as a “voucher” to ease sport registration costs and membership fees for fitness or physical activity.

These activities could include traditional sport such as netball, football or basketball. Also, the rebate will extend to swimming classes or lessons as well as other fitness or physical activities such as gymnastics or athletics.

According to the government, the voucher will not be means-tested and will be available to every school child enrolled in school from Kindergarten to year 12.
Parents will be able to register online to get their voucher to a sports club or registered provider to receive the rebate. There will be no limits on the number of applications per family.

Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said that the announced rebate is “a fantastic initiative which aims to reduce cost of living pressures for families and supports the Premier’s priority to reduce overweight and obesity rates of children by five per cent over 10 years,” Mr Perrottet said.
