Weekend congestion will be eased with the introduction with hundreds more train services coming soon in 2017.

The “More Trains, More Services” program with a capital investment of over $1.5 billion has been introduced to encourage greater number of commuters within Sydney.

Transport NSW announced that more than 750 new train services will be added to please the massive 68 per cent growth in Sydney train’s weekend demand between 2013 and 2016.
“We know that Saturday traffic in Sydney is often worse than week day morning peak hours.

Sundays are also hugely popular for travel, so we’re boosting services to give people more options on the weekend,” Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance said.
Some key weekend service improvements include more trains in the T1 Western Line, T1 Northern Line and the T1 North Shore Line.

T1 Western Line will have the frequency to the City doubled at stations between Penrith and Doonside. There will also be two additional trains every hour and a train wait time of average 15 minutes.

T2 Northern Line will have double frequency of trains between Epping and Central via Strathfield. This would lead to commuters getting on a train every 15 minutes.

In addition, direct services from Hornsby and North Ryde via Macquarie Park to the Sydney CBD will be doubled.

In the T1 North Shore Line, two extra trains per hour will be added in the day for commuters in Chatswood, Artarmon, St Leonards, North Sydney and Milsons Point.

Further, more services have been added to the following lines: T2 Airport Line, T5 Cumberland Line, T6 Carlingford Line and the Blue Mountains Line.

“There are 14 million car trips made every weekend in the city. We need to encourage more of those people on to our trains, which would make an incredible difference to our road network,” Mr Constance said.
