North Korea and its nuclear weapons program only targets the United States, as reported by an official North Korean newspaper.

According to a senior North Korean official, the U.S. is the main target and the rest of the world does not need to feel threatened.

“Today’s reality shows that our obtaining of nuclear weapons shatters the U.S. ambition to secure its supremacy in the Asia-Pacific region and safeguards peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and its region,” the deputy of North Korea’s Supreme People’s Assembly and the director of the National Reunification Institute, Ri Jong-hyok said.

He added that North Korea is facing the U.S. with nuclear weapons to achieve balance of power.

“Our nuclear deterrence is a sword of justice aimed at fighting the U.S. nuke and Asia and any country in the world need not worry about our threats,” he said.

However, he said that this case only applied as long as other countries did not join the invasion and provocations towards them.

He also pledged that North Korea will step up their fight against the U.S. and their sanctions campaign.

Experts view this statement as a timely response as increasing number of countries are joining the international efforts to press North Korea in giving up their nuclear weapons program.

The countries include North Korea’s long-time allies in the Southeast Asian region.
