The NSW Government’s $100 million boost will provide improved local sporting facilities to communities across Greater Sydney.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the new funds, which is part of the Government’s $290 million Open Spaces and Green Sydney package, will support up to 120 projects including new and upgraded ovals, dressing rooms, kiosks and football goals.

The Greater Sydney Sports Facility Funds will aid in creating more open space to enable communities to participate in sport at all levels.

“We know it is vital people have access to open and green spaces in their communities to improve liveability and provide families with the best possible quality of life,” Ms Berejiklian said.

“That is why we are making this investment to upgrade sporting facilities, a move which will give communities new synthetic fields or improved lighting and allow them to make the most of open spaces which are currently underused,” she added.

The first round of the fund is expected to open 1 June 2018, and eligible applicants will include 33 local government authorities in Greater Sydney, NSW State sporting organisations, and incorporated, community-based, not-for-profit sporting organisations.

Other entities such as educational organisations or private enterprises would also be eligible to apply.
“I am thrilled this $100 million investment will make a difference to families who want their kids to live a healthier lifestyle and make sure local communities have the sporting fields and infrastructure they need,” said Ms Berejiklian.
