The Appliance Replacement Scheme is saving NSW households an average of $325 per year in power bills.

The scheme, which was introduced by the NSW Government in 2016, replaces old appliances for a new and more energy efficient model at a 40 to 50 per cent discount.

This applies to households with Low Income, Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card, Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card holders, and energy hardship customers.

When an old, inefficient fridge is replaced, a household can save between $100 to $200 per year on energy bills.

When a plasma or cathode ray tube (CRT) television is replaced with an energy efficient LCD television, a household can save between $50 to $125 per year on energy bills.

Further, when replacing the old, inefficient fridge, a household can receive 40 per cent off the new cost. For televisions, households can receive 50 per cent off the new model.

“Households that need savings the most are helping the environment,” Minister for Environment Gabrielle Upton said.

“This is cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 16,600 tonnes a year, which is the same as taking 4160 cars off the road,” she said.

She also added that the Home Energy Action appliance replacement program plans to cut around $40 million in power bills over the next decade.

Since its introduction in August 2016, the scheme has replaced more than 32,600 old, inefficient appliances in more than 28,000 homes in NSW.
