The new Teacher Success Profile (TSP) will set a new standard for University graduates to be employed as teachers in NSW.

This will apply to all public-school employment in NSW, and all University students commencing their teaching degrees from 2019.

“The NSW Government is helping create more jobs and it is important that students are prepared as best as possible for the challenges those new roles will bring,” Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.

“Our public education system is world class and I want to give the people of NSW the confidence that it will remain excellent in the future,” she added.

The TSP will ensure that new graduates satisfy the five main criteria to be considered as a potential public-school teacher.

In their University degree, graduates must receive a minimum Credit grade point average.

They must also prove practical knowledge and ability, which will be reflected in the assessment of the practicum report.

Through a psychometric assessment, they must show superior cognitive and emotional intelligence.
In addition, they must demonstrate their commitment to the values of the public education in their behavioural interview.

Further, individuals who complete their undergraduate teaching degree online will not be preferred for employment unless they live in a remote area, or have personal circumstances making online education their only practical option.

“Teaching is not a career that just anyone can do. As the largest employer of teachers in the state, the NSW Government is passionate about ensuring that only the very best graduates end up in the public school system,” Education Minister Rob Stokes said.
