Millions of dollars waiting to be claimed

Over $146 million are waiting to be claimed with Revenue NSW, including money from share dividends, trust accounts, deceased estates, overpayments and other sources.

The missing money are waiting to be claimed because its owner’s contact details are missing, out of date or have been changed, making it impossible to track down.

“The value ranges from $20 in share dividends to a trust fund worth more than $1 million,” Minister for Finance and Small Business Damien Tudehope said. “Cost of living is a major issue facing families and households across the State, which is why we want people to check their eligibility. It only takes a few minutes and you could walk away with extra money in your pocket.”

Sydney suburb with the most unclaimed items is Darlinghurst, with 5,259 items yet to be claimed valued at $1.8m.

Further, the Sydney suburb which has the highest amount of unclaimed money is Cremorne, with 2,158 items waiting to be claimed valued at $3.7m.

North Sydney has 4,066 items to be claimed valued at $1.9m, Chatswood has 2,824 items valued at $1.4m, and Cabramatta has 2,909 items valued at $2.5m.

NSW residents are being encouraged by the NSW Government to go to the Revenue NSW website to check if they have any unclaimed or missing money.

“Finding out if you are eligible is quick and simple. If you enter your name into the free search tool on the Revenue NSW website you can see if you have an eligible claim. If you do have a claim, notify Revenue NSW and collect your money,” Mr Tudehope said.

“You can also make an appointment at a Service NSW centre with a cost of living specialist and they can help you check your eligibility for any unclaimed money, as well as other rebates and incentives including Active Kids vouchers, CTP refunds, and free registration for regular toll users,” Mr Tudehope added.

The NSW Government will hold the money indefinitely until it is claimed by rightful owners.
